Year 5 & 6 Visit to The Guardian
Wednesday's trip to The Guardian was not only informative, but also a trip to remember. Year 5 and 6 had a once in a lifetime chance to professionally write our very own newspaper article, doing it in the very same order reporters; sub-editors and picture editors do it, whilst taking on all three roles. We had to search for facts, whilst working in partners, to uncover information about various science topics using websites such as Google News to retrieve it. Then, we would edit it using Grammar and spelling check and soon after peer assess other group’s work. We would finally look for pictures that are related to the article, add headings, by-lines and captions. My group named our newspaper ‘Shanito reports’. We found this by combining our names together and changing ‘news’ to ‘reports’. I would recommend this trip to more Year 5 and 6 pupils, because it will be very helpful in giving them an insight on a journalist’s career and to see if they would like to be one when they are older. I would like to thank Ms. Keane for taking us on this fantastic trip.
